Saxon Villages of Transylvania: A 4-Day Route

Fortified churches, Sibiu, Sighișoara and the village Charles III loves (Viscri)

Four days through the Saxon Transylvania core: Sibiu, Biertan, Sighișoara, Viscri and Brașov, with detours to fortified churches in between.

4 days 5 stops 240 km 22 h Moderate
Route overview

The Transylvanian Saxons settled here in the 12th century, called in by the Hungarian crown to defend the southern frontier. They left behind a network of fortified churches — small Romanesque and Gothic citadels with the village clustered around them.

This four-day route covers the classic anchor towns (Sibiu, Sighișoara, Brașov) plus the two villages that have made it into the global conversation: Biertan (UNESCO fortified church) and Viscri (King Charles III's well-known restored cottage).
