Mânăstirea Tismana (1377), ctitorită de Nicodim cel Sfânt, este cea mai veche mânăstire din Oltenia și una dintre cele mai vechi din România. Situată spectaculos pe o stâncă deasupra cheilor Tismanei, cu ziduri masive de cetate și o colecție valoroasă de manuscrise și obiecte de cult medievale.
