Galați Danube Promenade
A long riverside promenade where the Danube takes its last great bend.

The Galați Danube Promenade is one of Romania's longest river walks — about 2 km from the passenger port to the Public Garden. The Danube is nearly 800 m wide here; it's the last great bend before the river splits into the Delta branches. You'll see cargo ships, barges, fishing boats, swans, and occasionally river seals.

The promenade was modernized in 2010-2014 — new paving, benches, lighting, restaurants, winter skating rinks. It fills with walkers in the evening, especially in summer. At the northern end, the Public Garden has a terrace overlooking the river — cheap coffee, port-city atmosphere.

Tip: sunset is the best time. In summer, at 9 PM, the sun drops right over the Danube — pink sky, dark water, lights from the other bank (that's Moldova!). Bring a camera. In winter, if it freezes, free skating.

Combine with the Visual Textile Museum (small but interesting), the Holy Trinity Cathedral, or a walk through town. Galați has eclectic architecture and a port-city feel you don't find in many places anymore.
