Alexandru Vlahuță Memorial House
The home of the writer who mapped Romania in his book "Picturesque Romania".

The Alexandru Vlahuță Memorial House in Drăgușenii Iezerului is one of the least-known but most meaningful literary houses in Moldavia. Vlahuță (1858-1919) — friend of Eminescu, the writer who mapped Romania in "Picturesque Romania" (1901), a book that still reads like an intelligent travel guide — spent his childhood here.

The house is small, modest, authentic (not over-reconstructed — keeps the real atmosphere). Inside: his small writing desk, manuscripts, photos with Eminescu (they were colleagues at Junimea society), old editions, letters, rustic furniture. A few rooms, half an hour to visit.

Why it matters: because Vlahuță did for Romania what Sadoveanu did for Moldavia — he loved it with effort, attention, observation. Read "Picturesque Romania" before you come. It's a light, gentle book about our villages, our mountains, our places, written around 1900. And it still holds up.

Tip: 25 km from Vaslui town with the County Museum and a dendrological park. 60 km from Iași (easy combination). Drăgușenii Iezerului is the quietest village around — no terraces, no shops. Bring sandwiches.
