Mânăstirea Măxineni, fondată de Matei Basarab în 1637, este cel mai important lăcaș monahal din Brăila. Reconstruită după devastările otomane, mânăstirea are o pictură murală valoroasă din sec.XVII și o colecție de obiecte de cult donate de domni munteni.
