Mânăstirea Cozia (1387-1388), ctitorită de Mircea cel Bătrân, este cea mai importantă ctitorie medievală din Oltenia și una dintre cele mai vechi din Muntenia. Mormântul lui Mircea cel Bătrân, pictura de secol XIV-XV și stilul arhitectural sârbesc-moldovenesc unic o fac un monument de prim rang.
