Podul Carol I de la Cernavodă (1895), proiectat de Anghel Saligny, a fost la inaugurare cel mai lung pod din Europa (4087m) şi al doilea din lume. A utilizat primul sistem de console din lume şi este un monument al ingineriei româneşti.
